We ran a load to Center Point Oregon. It was a metal building, siding panels, beams, etc.

I arrived at the address which had two open gated driveways into the woods. The first driveway was nice and wide and inviting, the second… I didn’t know if I could even make the turn into it. It had a full two foot drop off on each side.

I hit my hazards, called the number, and a man answered and promptly told me that I needed to enter the second driveway and follow the road to where his house was under construction. So, I said a little prayer and made the first turn. As narrow and hilly as the road looked, it wasn’t that bad really. The low hanging trees were my new concern. The unloader drove his pickup out to me as I was out of my truck debating if I could clear the tree branches. He said, “Hi.”

I said, “Hi, not sure if can clear these tree branches.” For the folks at home, that’s trucker for, “have any of the other trucks cleared it coming in here?”

He didn’t appear to speak trucker, and said, “I don’t cut trees, see when you get back here.” And backed down the driveway.  Well, now I’m thinking instead of him using a forklift, I will just shove this material up his ass and have him sign for it when I figure out how to navigate this trail.

Took a bit, but I got safely to the site, unstrapped, and another guy pulled up in an expensive looking ride and was very friendly thanked me and stuff… He was the home owner, and the owner of a well known coffee house chain in the area. I was winding my straps up and Mr. Friendly was pulling this material off quickly and efficiently. I see an older model “classic” pickup pull up. And dropped my jaw and my strap, I was 100% certain it was Tommy Chong walking toward me. He greeted me and talked like him too!

I’m chatting with him and in about 4 seconds he is talking about growing pot and I’m like wow! It is him! I kind of talked about the legalization and all that, also slid a comment in the convo that I may possibly have partaken in the past but certainly do not currently smoke it as a truck driver, so he knew not to light one up or something. At some point I called him sir, and he said, “Don’t call me sir, we’re not in the military.” And chuckled a bit.

Well, I thought perfect! I can get his name now. If he says Tommy, I’m freaking out.

So, I said “Well, I don’t know your name…” And smiled. He put his hand out and said, “My name is Bill, it’s nice to meet you.” With this- he extended his hand for a handshake and I was stunned for a second because I haven’t had someone wanting a handshake in months. I did shake his hand, and he says he needs me to take this and hands me a twenty dollar bill as a tip!

I naturally tried to decline, but Bill Tommy Chong insisted. He then explained that the load was supposed to be delivered the day before and the driver just didn’t get the load and didn’t call anyone, nothing. Guess who sat there all day for nothing yesterday? Correct! Mr. Friendly. By the end of it Mr. Friendly and I were joking around and stuff while getting it unloaded, and I told him I hate he sat there for nothing yesterday, etc.

He helped me get turned around and out of there, and I was 20$ richer from Tommy Chong the Pot Grower AKA “Bill”.
