It was late at night and unusual for me to be driving. Generally, Freckles drives at night and I drive during the day. This is mostly due to Freckles being a night owl, and I, a morning person. She enjoys the less traffic and night time in general and always has.
It was somewhere in Arizona, and I was just listening to my music. All of a sudden, a family van passes me in the fast lane. I thought, “Whoa! They are going to get one hell of a ticket.” They were flying and very close to the median. I don’t know how fast that van was going for sure, but it had to be a hundred mph or more.
Next thing you know, blue lights are lighting the night sky, and all my mirrors. There were ten of them bearing down on me fast. They were in the right lane so I put my blinker on and switched to the fast lane and hugged the median just like our van speeder. They flew by and it was exciting. Something about first responder vehicles in pursuit blowing by you gets your heart beating.
I saw the lights exit the interstate, and when I caught up to that exit they had that van surrounded. I heard a couple loud bangs and assumed it was shots. I kept driving, of course, and Googled high speed car chase in Arizona the next day. It was a man wanted for murdering his fiancé in Missouri and driving his victims van. There were no mentions of gun shots in the news stories so, I am not sure what I heard. Maybe they broke the windows, or the news wasn’t aware of shots fired.
